Jane Lee Becomes Successful Cookie Monster
The Las Vegas Sun published this article on March 7th. For the full article please visit their website.
March 7th, 2011
Las Vegas, NV — For Jane Lee, the economic downturn has been bittersweet.
In the midst of the region's money troubles, Lee took the opportunity to ditch her real estate career to pursue her real passion: cookies.
Lee, a former residential and commercial lending mortgage broker, launched in September 2009 Jadon Foods, which manufacturers cookies, cakes and other baked treats that cater to those with diabetes or food allergies.
"I had plenty of opportunities to return to that, but I just wanted to follow a passion," Lee said.
She moved to Las Vegas in August 2007 to care for her father, a diabetic in poor health who needed to control his diet because of it. Her mom was also a diabetic who had to watch what she ate, too. Lee obliged.
"Making cookies boils down to my parents' inspiration as they began to age and had to watch what they ate," Lee said. "Dad had a sweet tooth, and I had to come up with recipes that satisfied him because he liked to cheat so much."
Lee, who worked in New York's financial industry, has been working on her cookie recipes for more than 10 years. And she'd always hoped to turn that love into a business.
Lee needed a way to transition into that — the downturn was her impetus.
She discovered that others also enjoyed her recipes. Her concoctions include cookies that are low-glycemic, diabetic friendly or gluten free. She also custom makes cookies with sugar or gluten, but specializes in treats for people with medical conditions and food allergies, she said.
"I enjoy baking and enjoy making foods that make a difference in other people's lives." Lee said. "I saw how it impacted my own family and their quality of life and have the ability to enjoy something that was off limits to them."

Dish — Neither Wind Nor Cold Dampen Good Will
April 3rd, 2009
Sring Preserve, Las Vegas, NV — The winds were howling and the temperature dipped far below seasonal averages. The combination of the two made enjoying an outdoor event a bit challenging, but hundreds of the Valley's residents bundled up to enjoy DISH, the inaugural fund-raising event to benefit Three Square, the food bank of Southern Nevada. The evening showcased a lineup of stars from both the culinary and entertainment industries. Peter Sherlock from the Springs Cafe by Wolfgang Puck, Linda Rodriguez from Hachi at Red Rock Casino, Rick Moonen from RM Seafood and Kerry Simon from Simon at Palms Place, served up restaurant signature items to help warm the crowd. Tasting tables of local restaurants were
located throughout the venue.
Dish 2009
The line of entertainment was reflective of the city in which many stars make their home. Carrot Top, Louie Anderson, George Wallace, Clint Holmes and more shared the stage lending their profile, visibility and talent to call attention to the problem of hunger.
26 local artists and celebrity chefs designed and created signature DISH artwork on dishes which was auctioned during the Silent Auction
This columnist's personal favorite activity of the evening was tasting the variety of desserts. Jadon Foods put together a tray of delectable delights that rated highly even with the star chefs. In speaking with Jane Lee, President of Jadon Foods, she noted that their mission was to make great tasting healthy treats. From the samples tasted, they're onto something.
Ultimately, the evening's weather did take
its toll. As the winds picked up and the temperature dipped, even the most die hard began to depart. Always the optimist, Three Square CEO Julie Murray was happy to have so many present throughout the evening. She is already looking forward to next year's event. With so many working together, her ultimate goal is to end hunger. In its brief existence, Three Square has already become a model organization toward which other food banks strive. To learn more about Three Square and how you can help, go to www.threesquare.org.
